The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead is the newest indoor slope to sit on our little island. Open for just over a year it has grown fast in terms of a freestyle centre and with the opening of the new XC skate park right next door Hemel is possibly set to be the new mecca of action sports.
Hemel hasn’t always had an indoor slope but it has had a slope and for a very long time. Before the indoor was the Hemel dryslope, a place where some of the masters in the British scene learnt to ride and where some of the current teachers at Hemel began their teaching careers. The slope itself was around since the late 80′s serving years of shred heads who itched for the real stuff. In 2010 the Hemel skyline changed forever as now a giant fridge sits in the dryslopes place, home to many snow lovers from surrounding counties. The slope isn’t amazingly long but for what it lacks in area it more than makes up in atmosphere as the Snow Centre is known in other circles for its vibrant freestyle nights.
Where most other domes literally have a night where a better park setup is provided Hemel provides an electric atmosphere to go with it and leaves anyone pumped after a session. Everyone knows everyone else and you will always get a friendly welcome from locals which is why it is FBBB’s favourite slope to shred at in the UK. Hemel still is yet to peak in terms of a park setup but it is getting there with the newest feature being the Moog Wally Bar donated from our friends at MoogRoyale.com. If you have nothing better to do on a Friday night come shred, its sick!
Some of the people that work in the Snow Centre love to snowboard after work, a few of those love to get a skate in before hitting the shred. Literally 2 minutes from the Snow Centre is the XC, the newest skate park to be built in the UK. Alongside XC’s impressive extreme sports skate park, 15m climbing wall, indoor caving system, bouldering and high ropes, the XC also features a teen focused health centre with counselling rooms Music recording studio, and internet cafe. Young people have been involved in the plans of XC since the beginning to make sure the centre provides everything they need.
